The Commonwealth Ports Authority will receive a grant of $250,000 from the Department of the Interior’s Office of Insular Affairs to provide funding for a new incinerator at the Francisco C. Ada Saipan International Airport.

“The grant will help the ports authority meets its commitment to improve clean air quality in Saipan,” said Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Interior David B. Cohen. “This is an important goal for CPA and I am pleased that this grant can contribute to this effort.”

The grant will be matched with another $250,000 from CPA, thereby leveraging available federal funds. The grant comes from the Office of Insular Affairs Operations and Maintenance Improvement Program, a program, which assists the U.S. territories and the freely associated states to manage their critical infrastructure.
