Two teams have already secured championships trophies after posting straight-set victories in the ongoing 3rd Verizon Tennis Cup at the American Memorial Park tennis courts.

The father-and-son punch of Tatsunori and Ruichi Gotanda were impressive in the co-ed category, putting on a show in the finale against Lenny Pantaleon and Vener Urena en route to a 6-2, 6-0 victory.

Also stamping their name in the list of winners were Ligaya Paculanang and Merle Hudkins, who took top honors in the women’s doubles 4.0 Sunday night after stopping a respectable push by Nelia Luna and Vangie Espanola.

Paculanang and Hudkins had everything flow their way and secured their crown with a 6-3, 6-4 victory.

Paculanang and Hudkins defeated Linda Decena and Emily Kwan in the semis by default, while Luna and Espanola earned their slot with a walkover win over Rose Pedersen and Ayumi Cajigan.

Meanwhile, Nanding Cajigan and Ganover Rettin earned a slot in the men’s doubles 4.5 finals after edging the determined team of Father Ryan Jimenez and Roy Pangelinan 6-2, 5-7, 6-2.

The two will face Peter Loyola and Hector Benitez, who had an easier time advancing to the finals with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Dodong Espanola and Lito Cabrera.

Jimenez still has much to forward to after advancing to the semifinals of the men’s 4.0 as he and Espanola joined forces to beat Sonny and Ronni Decena in a straight-set thriller, 7-5 and 7-5.

Also in the semis are Keith Gabaldon and Abet Encarnacion, who got past Art Lopez and
Romy Sotto 6-3, 7-5.

For their part, the duo of Dr. Gary Ramsey and Dr. Richard Brostrom also advanced to the semifinals of the men’s 3.5 after cruising past Sam Apostol and Rodel Macasinag in straight sets 6-2, 6-3.

In other women’s action, Young Son and Mayuko Arriola brought their “A” game and defeated Kazumi Imai and Joy Minor 6-3, 6-3 to move to the finals of the women’s doubles 5.0, while Pantaleon and Vangie Espanola earned a finals berth in the 3.0 with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Sadako Arriola and Aki Gotunda.
