Boxing fans will soon get another opportunity to enjoy the sights of jabs, upper cuts, and foot work around the ring as Battle of the Grounds hits Saipan on Aug. 27 at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

Presented by Triple K International Entertainment, the event is expected to feature a total of seven fights, five of which are preliminaries featuring amateur boxers from Saipan, Tinian, and Guam.

Shortly after the amateur bouts, Tinian’s Pride Bert Cano will return to try to give his fans more to remember him by as he takes on Jerwin Balaba of the Philippines in the supporting main event.

After all six bouts are in the books, the stage will be set for Baby Wonder Boy Jr. and Direck Johnson, who will go head to head in the evening’s main event.

“So far, all the boxers are ready, especially those in the main and the supporting event,” said promoter Henry Q. Cardinez. “

The event is expected to unfold at 6pm, with tickets being sold for $12 for general admission and $30 for ringside seats.

“This is all to promote the sport of boxing in the CNMI for the benefit of the youth,” Cardinez said. “We’re very excited about everything and we can’t wait for the show to start.”

Host coordinator Al Taitano echoed similar comments, explaining that hosting the event “provides another venue that serves as a deterrence for criminal acts by youths.

“We want this to be a fruitful and successful event…promoting the sport to develop the skills and interest of our youth. It’s also an added attraction and entertainment for our community,” he said.

Not only will all in attendance during the event, as well as all sponsors be provided with live entertainment, all will be part of a worthy cause as proceeds will be donated to the Kristo Rai Church and Karidat.

Organizers, which also include Rudy Dalisai and promoter Gloria Sinlao-Mariano, also extend an invitation to any amateur boxer interested in taking part in the event, as well as the generosity of interested sponsors.
