A man sued another for monetary damages over an assault incident in Chalan Kanoa over a year ago.

In a civil complaint filed with the Superior Court, Manuel C. Dacuma is seeking $10,000 as compensation and another $10,000 as punitive damages against one Gilbert Calalay.

Calalay allegedly beat Dacuma up near the latter’s barracks in Chalan Kanoa on April 26, 2004.

Dacuma’s attorney, Reynaldo O. Yana, said the mauling has damaged his client’s left eye.

Yana said Dacuma was near his barracks at about 7:30pm when Calalay suddenly approached and pushed the victim, who fell to the ground. He said Calalay then punched Dacuma several times.

While people at the vicinity pulled Calalay and Dacuma away from each other, the defendant managed to kick the victim twice, Yana said.

The lawyer said the assault resulted in injuries to Dacuma’s face, body and left eye, which required hospitalization and treatment.
