Dai-Ichi Hotel Saipan Beach’s own bartender Ray Macalintal ruled Wednesday night’s BarWars at the G.I.G., a premier discotheque on Saipan.

Macalintal bested five other contenders for the championship trophy and the Best in Taste special award for his very own concoction of “Mondrays.” Macalintal took home $200 plus a trophy and gift certificates from Tinian Dynasty Hotel and Casino. He also bagged $100 for the Best in Taste award.

Last year’s champion, Charlton Lipa of the Aqua Resort Club, settled for the second spot, taking home $150 in cash plus a trophy and an overnight stay at the Tinian Dynasty Hotel and Casino. Another Aqua Resort Club bartender, Cesar Ramos, made it to top three, bagging the third place and winning $100 in cash plus a trophy and gift certificates from Aquarius Beach Tower Hotel.

It was, however, the bartenders from The Flair Bar that stole the limelight from the competitors. The Flair bartenders wowed the audience with their technical and creative flair as they showed off their routine of juggling four wine bottles and steel wine cups and mixing their drinks with pizzazz and grace. The 20-minute cocktail show left the crowd chanting for more.

The bartenders from The Flair are from South Korea who ventured into taking the bar to the CNMI. The Flair is a franchise of some 20 other bars in South Korea. The professional bartenders have competed and won several awards in different bartending competitions in South Korea.

Judges during the competition were Angel Santos, JR Sablan and Josephine Plinske. Sponsors of the event were Marianas Music Videos, BlueBay Pro Company, Aquarius Beach Tower Hotel, Sauza Tequila Gold, Tinian Dynasty Hotel and Casino, Yuichiro’s Printing Design and Gold’s Gym. GIG Discotheque, The Bar Jazz, The Bar Jazz Annex, and Bossano Bar organized the event.
