The Saipan Mayor’s Office has been authorized to use funds totaling $20,768 from the resident identification card account for heavy equipment maintenance, operations, and purchase of supplies.

Gov. Juan N. Babauta recently approved Saipan Local Bill 14-66, which the Saipan and Northern Island Legislative Delegation had earlier passed.

The bill, authored by Rep. Justo S. Quitugua and Jesus T. Attao, said the mayor’s office needs additional funding for supplies, equipment maintenance, and operations “in order to continue providing its services to our community.”

The ID program was created by Saipan Local Law 13-6. The law authorizes the Mayor’s Office to issue a resident identification card and charge a fee for it.

Earlier, Saipan mayor Juan B. Tudela said that his office financial resources are stretched beyond limit amid huge demand for services from the community. (Liberty Dones)
