A lot of attention has been focused on the Saipan Swim Club recently following the recent success of the CNMI swimmers in the South Pacific Mini-Games in Palau, and now the under-funded organization got a shot in the arm from the people who know a thing or two about infusing life.

The NMI Chapter of the American Red Cross did its part to aid the SSC by donating roughly $1,000 worth of tools of the trade to the aquatic aces that brought home the majority of the hardware overseas.

“We are pleased to make this donation to the Club in honor of Bill and Jean Sakovich and their more than 25 years of dedication to swimming in the Marianas” said John Hirsh, NMI Chapter Executive Director.

The new equipment should aid the swimmers in their quest for their best, as the 37 sets of fins, 25 kick boards, and 15 pull buoys will enable them to train the ways the professionals do.

Coach Michael Stewart received the equipment on behalf of the SSC and thanked the American Red Cross for their generosity. Stewart said that the gear replace some of the aging stock of equipment just in time for the SSC’s new season later this month, and that it will be used to train the swimmers in perfecting the four types of strokes in competitive swimming.
