Career Fair seeks support from biz community
The Marianas High School’s Cooperative Education and Training Program is seeking the support of the business community for its Career Fair, which will be held today.
Program coordinator and teacher Tyce Mister has sent out letters of invitation to businesses and establishments that might want to participate in the event. He said businesses are encouraged to attend the Career Fair today, from 1:30pm to 3pm, at the MHS cafeteria behind Building A.
Mister also invited the business community through the Saipan Rotary Club during its regular meeting at the Hyatt Regency Saipan yesterday.
He said that Saipan’s senior level public high school students from the Cooperative Education and Training Program would be participating. There are currently 27 students from MHS and 25 students from Kagman High School who will participate in the event.
Mister said the event intends to expose high school students to different career options available to them in the CNMI. He said the fair would be an opportunity for both employers and students to meet each other and possibly set up an arrangement for Cooperative Training.
He said the interview with the students could be made during the fair today or through KHS coordinator Maria Pangelinan at 664-3780. Businesses may also directly contact the students beginning today for further interview.
Mister said the students will be available in the afternoon and would arrange their own transportation to the business sites.
“All businesses will have an opportunity to meet the students to evaluate if a training agreement can be reached,” he said.
If both parties agree to such an agreement during the interview, a “Training Agreement” will be provided, which will be signed by the school principal, teacher-coordinator, parent or guardian, student, and the employer.
So far, the Marianas Visitors Authority, Dai-Ichi Hotel Saipan Beach, Saipan Grand Hotel, Verizon, Saipan Chamber of Commerce and Pacific Islands Club have expressed their interest in participating in the Career Fair.
Mister said business establishments and offices that want to participate in the program may contact him at 664-3831 or email him at tyce.mister@vzpacifica.net.
The students were recently trained on building their curriculum vitae. Mister said they also had workshops on handling interviews in preparation for today’s fair and the succeeding interviews to come with prospective employers.
The program started in 1971 and has produced several graduates.
