Artists, collectors invited to take part in revived exhibit
Local artists and art enthusiasts and collectors are invited to participate in this year’s Cultural Heritage and Arts Pasifika Exhibits, which will go up next month after a one-year absence in the CNMI.
Commonwealth Council for Arts and Culture coordinator Sinforosa C. Pinaula said the council is inviting all interested parties to submit and forward their artworks and arts collection to the office for the arts exhibit.
Pinaula said the CNMI Cultural Heritage Exhibit would feature traditional Carolinian and Chamorro crafts as part of the CNMI wide Cultural Heritage Month celebration in September. The Arts Pasifika segment will feature artworks from places like Samoa, Papua New Guinea, Tonga, Fiji, Australia, and other pacific island nations.
The exhibit was cancelled last year, said Pinaula, due to Typhoon Chaba. She said the Emergency Management Office used the Arts Council gallery as its extension office during the typhoon.
She said all interested artists and collectors for both Carolinian and Chamorro crafts and Pacific artworks are asked to submit or forward their entries to be sold or displayed during the exhibition to the council.
She said the Arts Council will start accepting their artworks starting this Friday, Aug. 19, until Aug, 29. The artworks will only be accepted from 8am to 4:30pm.
The gallery for the cultural exhibit will be open Mondays through Fridays, from 8am to 4pm only. The gallery is also open during Saturdays from 9am to 1pm. Interested individuals may contact the Arts Council at 322-9982 or 322-9983.
