The Society for Human Resource Management has invited Federal Ombudsman for the CNMI Jim Benedetto to share information tomorrow about domestic violence and how it affects the workplace.

Benedetto will be presenting at SHRM’s general membership meeting on Aug. 18.

He will provide information for employers and human resource professionals to help them understand domestic violence and its impact on the workplace, including employee attendance, lost productivity, and increased health care costs.

The presentation will also include recommendations for employers on how to increase workplace security, avoid company liability, establish an Employee Assistance Program, and develop a workplace domestic violence policy.

Benedetto will also review the Commonwealth’s Domestic Violence Criminal Act, enacted on May 28, 2004, that recognized “stalking” as a crime.

The meeting will be held at the Giovanni’s Restaurant at Hyatt Regency Saipan, from 11:30am to 1pm. The cost is $15 for members and $20 for non-members.

Seating is limited, so members and others interested in attending this meeting should contact Liz Castro at 234-1234 ext. 5403/5151 or fax number 233-0182 for reservations. Or you can email your reservations to Frank Gibson at flgibson@yahoo.com.
