The Canadian team that obliterated the Netherlands a day prior had its hands full with the islanders, but the Orleans Junior Leaguers from Ottawa, Ontario were able to find a way to edge the Marianas out of the winner’s circle in extra innings.

Though they would need a little help, the Saipan squad could stay in contention if they pull off a victory against the Curundu Junior League All-Stars of Panama City, Panama (0-1). The CNMI returns to the ball field to challenge the Latin American Regional Champions when the populace is waking this morning in the CNMI at 7am.

The win put the Canadians in a first place tie with Puerto Rico atop the International Pool at 2-0, as the Hermanos Cruz All-Stars from Arroyo shut out the Panamanians, 4-0.

The Puerto Ricans have a chance to improve their record to 3-0 when they take on the Rotterdam/Rijnmond Junior Leaguers from the Netherlands, while Canada sits idle.

Whichever teams win today, all of the youngsters should get a lift today when Nate Robertson and Vance Wilson of Major League Baseball’s Detroit Tigers pay a visit to the ball park in Taylor.

The local players will be able to get autographs and take pictures with the guys from the show.
