The Society for Human Resource Management is eyeing the CNMI for its first-ever regional conference in the Asia Pacific region.

SHRM CNMI Chapter president Maggie Sablan told members during the local chapter’s monthly meeting yesterday that Javier Lozano, the Strategic Planning and Development regional director for Asia Pacific Region, had expressed interest in holding the regional conference here on Saipan.

Sablan said the organization would have two conferences this year: the annual conference and the diversity conference, to be held respectively in October and November this year.

Sablan said the regional conference aims to gather members of the organization from Guam, Republic of Palau and the CNMI. It also intends to open up and introduce the organization to other interested businesses.

She said the SHRM CNMI Chapter planning committee would have to meet next week to finalize plans. The Guam chapter has already committed to hosting the annual conference on Oct. 19.

Sablan said that, if plans to hold the regional conference on Saipan in November push through, this would give them enough time to plan for a successful conference.

Topics to be discussed during the conference would have something to do with human resources concerns, said Sablan. The subjects would be human resources at directors’ level and one at the support level. International topics such as time management and others would also be considered.

“We will have to work with the committee,” Sablan said, adding that the local chapter would have to seek the help of facilitators and dynamic speakers.

As for funding, Sablan said, the main organization would have to help in shouldering the fees for the facilitators and speakers; the local chapter would have to shoulder all other expenses. She said she would discuss funding issues with neighboring SHRM organizations for possible assistance. “It could be shared responsibilities among us.”
