Netter Tim Quan showed good form and had everything go his way as he defeated fellow CNMI representative Ralph Buenaventura in the 2005 Oceania Closed Junior Championships in Lautoka, Fiji.

The CNMI showdown at the Dr. Robin Mitchell Regional Training Center tennis courts was dominated by Quan, who broke Buenaventura three times in the opening set.

The Hawaii Preparatory Academy graduate went on to take the first set with ease, 6-0.

Buenaventura settled down in the second set and put up a better fight. The Grace Christian Academy student had several shiny moments, but his efforts was overmatched by Quan, who recorded his second win of the tournament with the 6-3 clincher.

With the win, Quan bounced back from a straight sets defeat at the handsof New Zealand’s Patrick Metham. He had earlier defeated Johnson Taliki of the Solomon Islands after dropping his first two matches and finished with a 2-3 record.

For his part, Buenavantura recorded one win in the tournament after having his way against Ian Honila of the Solomon Islands. Like Quan, Buenaventura dropped his first two bouts before rebounding against Honila. He then lost to Chris Toli of American Samoa before faltering to Quan.

In all, a total of 32 netters from nine countries took part in the singles draw. Aside from those mentioned, other countries include Australia, Nauru, Tonga, Fiji, and Vanuatu.

Australia’s Brydan Klein played flawless tennis throughout the tournament and finished on top, capping his run by beating fellow Aussie Greg Jones in straight sets 6-2, 6-1.

Both had recorded four straight wins before meeting up, with Klein extending his streak to five.
