It is a busy week for the 10 members of the CNMI delegation in the 19th Asian Intercity Bowling Championship.

The delegation, comprised of two teams—Capitol Hill and Saipan—began their day yesterday with practice sessions and closed their evening by taking part in the evening’s opening ceremony at the Jaya Ancol Bowling Center in Jakarta, Indonesia.

On Monday, all team managers had a meeting at Sheraton Media Hotel Monday evening. The meeting was conducted by chief technical director Dr. Danny Santos, AIBC secretary general Nena Yap, and organizing chairman Oki Harwanto.

All at the meeting also gave a moment of silence in respect to the late Huang Wan Cheng, the president of AIBC.

The Championship begins today with teams seeing action in singles competition, with the women taking the lanes in the morning and the men in the evening.

Day two will feature battles in doubles competition, while team competition will be held on Friday.

The scores in the three events will determine whether they qualify for the all-events medal.

The top 16 bowlers in the all-events will make the cut for the Masters Event, which unfolds on Saturday and is scheduled to conclude on Sunday with a stepladder finals.

Team Saipan is led by veterans Joseph Sablan, John Santos, Simon Manacop, and Mark “The Shark” Halstead, while youth bowlers Raymond Zapanta, Raymond Angelles, and Ruselle Zapanta join Kitz Barja in Capitol Hill.

The team is also accompanied by head of delegation and Saipan Bowling Association president Jerry Tan and manager Ross Zapanta.

A record 18 teams are taking part in the Championship including Busan of Korea, Chennai of India, Daegu of Korea, Happy Valley Club of Hong Kong, Kepulauan Seribu of Indonesia, Kowloon of Hong Kong, Hong Kong of China, Macau of China, Paranaque City of the Philippines, Pasay City of the Philippines, Shah Alam Bowling Club of Malaysia, Taipei City of Chinese Taipei, Tamuning of Guam, Uiwang of Korea, Victoria of China and host Jakarta City.
