NMIFA clinic open for all this weekend
The Northern Mariana Islands Football (Soccer) Association will hold a coaches and players clinic this weekend at the American Memorial Park.
In a show of brotherhood, the Guam Football Association is lending its assistance to NMIFA by offering the services of Coach Tsaki, who will conduct the clinic, which is open to children between the ages of four and a half and 16 with interest and enthusiasm as the only prerequisites.
So far, about 200 players and over 20 parents have shown interest in taking part in the clinic.
The six-and-under category sports the biggest number with 58 interested players, followed by the eight-and-under category with 49. About 37 kids are ready for the 10-and-under category, 20 for the 12-and-under, 13 for the 14-and-under, and three for the 16-and-under.
Two sessions will be featured each day, with the first designated for interested coaches and the second for players.
Interested coaches will have their brains picked during an introductory course from 9am to 12 pm, and will assist coach Tsuki and GFA board member Frank Angoco during the second session, which focuses on providing players will knowledge they will need as they develop their skills.
NMIFA is currently working on organizing a league for all interested players.
As with any new league, NMIFA need a number of volunteers to help out with almost every aspect, and plans are already underway for a coach/referee clinic to be held next month as well as parents for coaching and officiating. While individuals with a background in the sport are encouraged to pass on their knowledge, training will provided and no experience is necessary.
Now that the registration phase is all taken care of, the teams will take to the sea of green for their first practices on Tuesday afternoon’s at 4:30 pm in the AMP, and the highly anticipated games will be held on Saturday afternoons at 4:30 pm at the same location.
