VFW ‘Donate a Smile’ fundraiser collects $3.5K
The Veterans of Foreign Wars, Saipan Post 3457 expressed its gratitude yesterday to everyone who helped make their “Donate a Smile” fundraiser a big success.
The fundraiser was intended for the Children’s Operation Fund for cleft lip and palate operations.
VFW Saipan Post 3457 commander Barry Hirshbein said that about $3,500 was raised through this event, enough to pay for 10 operations.
“There were many important donors but we would especially like to thank Continental Airlines for contributing a roundtrip ticket to Manila. The raffle for that alone raised more than enough for an operation,” said Hirshbein.
For those not able to make it to the event, Hirshbein said it is not too late to help out.
“There are still hundreds of kids waiting for help. The fund will remain open for a few more weeks while the VFW collects pledges and waits for checks that were mailed,” he said.
Persons wishing to help can drop their donations off at the VFW Post Home in the old California Hotel Building or send their check to VFW Post 3457, PMB 529 PPP Box 10000, Saipan MP 96950. They can also contact Hirshbein at 236-0904 to arrange for a pickup.
“On behalf of the children who will benefit from this event, we thank you,” he said.
