SML to resume once weather clears up
The Saipan Major League intends to resume its best-of-five championship series as soon as possible.
This according to league coordinator Tony Rogolifoi, who explained yesterday that Game 3 of the series between powerhouses Ford Rangers and Northern Yankees will be played once Mother Nature holds her rain for enough time to let the Francisco M. Palacios Baseball Field dry up.
Since last week, the field has been drenched by heavy rains.
The Yankees won Game 1 about three weeks ago, and after two weeks of waiting—also because of rain—the two teams got back on the field. Game 2 was last Monday, with the Rangers managing to knot the series at a game apiece with a late rally that propelled them to a 7-6 victory.
If rain continues, the two teams might have to play Game 3 two weeks after playing Game 2, but Rogolifoi is hopeful things will turn in the right direction.
Meanwhile, Rogolifoi said that although the lights high above field have yet to be tested or turned on since Typhoon Nabi left the island, he believes the facility will be okay for play once the weather clears up.
“We haven’t tested it out yet, but unlike Chaba, the lights seem to be in place and facing the right direction,” he said.
