Gunners to repaint Raiders
After a month of foul weather caused several of the area’s sporting associations to postpone all activities, the run-and-gun style of the monthly CNMI Inter-Island Paintball Tournament will make its return to Raiders Field in As Matuis.
The real colors of fake war will be on display next Sunday, Sept. 25, as teams from Saipan, Tinian, and anywhere else are invited to vie for a slot in the yearend invitation-only tournament by dodging the multi-hued flurry of the flak down range.
Since there was no tournament in August, the teams from Saipan will have to redeem themselves as a raiding force from across the channel dominated the tournament when the Pacific Predators of Tinian ruled the field in July.
“They’re the only team from Tinian and they took the trophy from us. Only one team and we still couldn’t beat them,” said July’s tournament director Mike Rueters.
Now the stage is set for a rematch, as the dash from 55-gallon drum to 55-gallon drum will be well supported with volunteers, scorers, and a host of revenge-minded teams.
Tournament director Norma Rueter said that she has already rallied the troops by placing calls to a number of players, and that while she cannot say exactly how many will show up, she believes that this month’s tournament can be one of the best yet.
The cost of registration is $10 to enter your squad into the color war, with an additional $5 fee for marker rental if necessary. The pre-spree briefing takes place at 10am, and the games start at 11am.
