Netters need coaches
With a year in the books and the recent ushering in of a board of directors, the Northern Mariana Islands Volleyball Association is now shifting its focus toward grooming tomorrow’s talent today and has begun a search for coaches for both men’s and women’s indoor and beach volleyball.
In its first year in the Marianas, NMIVA sponsored the 13th Marianas Cup Beach Volleyball Festival at the Pacific Islands Club, the Jam Attack indoor volleyball tournament, BSEA/Rudeger Outdoor tournament at Micro Beach, and a series of qualifying tournaments which led to sending Mili Saiki, Melissa Halaby, Nan Intharaluk, and Donn Dunlop to compete in the 2005 South Pacific Mini Games in Palau.
While some of the top players are already locally well known, the next generation of bumpers, setters, and spikers could be the future gold medalists that turn the tide in the region.
The recent commitment of the CNMI to host the 2006 Micronesian Games has raised the level of importance for the local leapers to learn the rest from the best if they hope to keep some of the medals in the CNMI.
Interested coaches should contact NMIVA president Jon Cramer via telephone by calling 235-6231 ext. 5148 or via email at jon@picsaipan.com in order to submit their qualifications, or by contacting NMIVA secretary Steve Nguyen at soundsticks@gmail.com.
The search is on, and the time to act is now as the deadline for submission is this Friday, Sept 23.
