The Attorney General’s Office has filed criminal charges against the security guard who allegedly robbed Tuesday morning last week the Garapan poker arcade that he was supposed to watch.

CNMI chief prosecutor Jeffrey Moots said he lodged robbery and kidnapping charges against 47-year-old Alexander Reyes Cana.

Besides accusing Cana of robbing cash from the Fun and Games poker arcade and its cashier, Nilda Sison, Moots also said the security guard deprived the cashier of her liberty for a substantial period of time.

In an affidavit earlier submitted to the Superior Court, police detective Alfred Celes said Cana forced the cashier into the restroom after poker staff Alex Padini and Iglecerio Jagong collected money from the poker machines.

The detective said the money collectors had just left the poker establishment before 8:30am when Cana approached Sison and then placed her in headlock. After forcing the cashier into the restroom, Cana allegedly locked her up. The cashier, however, managed to climb through the restroom’s window and escape to seek assistance.

Operatives from the police department’s Thief Apprehension Select Coalition arrested Cana that night after receiving a tip about the security guard’s whereabouts. Armed with an arrest warrant, operatives collared Cana at the Summer Holiday hotel room where he was staying. The lawmen botched Cana’s attempt to flee and caught the security guard in possession of a plane ticket for Manila the following day.

Police said Cana robbed the poker arcade of some $27,735.50.
