The House of Representatives confirmed yesterday the appointment of two current members of the Commonwealth Telecommunications Commission: J. Michael Fitzgerald of Tinian and Norman T. Tenorio of Saipan.

The House, however, has yet to act on the nomination of Alvin King, who was appointed to represent Rota to the commission.

Rep. Crispin Ogo said the House needed documents to prove that King had met a minimum requirement that a CTC member have either a bachelor’s degree or five years experience in the telecommunications industry.

“I am surprised that the Senate did not look at this requirement,” said Ogo.

The Senate had earlier confirmed the nominations of all three appointees.

CTC is the only agency that needs House concurrence on the nomination of its members.

Fitzgerald has a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Texas and a master’s degree in political science/international relations from the University of Houston. He currently works as assistant general manager of Telesource CNMI Inc.

Tenorio has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Marquette University in Wisconsin. He is the president of Pacifica Insurance Underwriters Inc. and wholesaling/retailing director of Joeten Enterprises Inc.

Josephine Mesta of Hyatt Regency Saipan is also currently sitting on CTC. The commission oversees operations of telecommunication service providers in the CNMI.
