Weekly television show comes to the Garapan Street Market
Entertainment at the Garapan Street Market is set to become more exciting as the market becomes the stage for a weekly television show featuring traditional and cultural performances, contemporary entertainment, community events, contests, and more.
The Department of Community and Cultural Affairs has entered into an agreement with Blue Bay Pro Co. for the production of a weekly television show at the market, similar to shows taped at Ala Moana Shopping Center in Hawaii. Under the agreement, Blue Bay Pro Co. will oversee entertainment for the purposes of producing the television show, at no additional cost to the department.
“The Ala Moana Show is a family oriented program that everyone enjoys in Hawaii, we’d like to create something similar with the unique NMI flavor,” said Blue Bay Pro Co. president Al Cabael. “These islands comprise different cultures that are rich in heritage; as we live together we can learn much more from each other. This show will offer opportunities to showcase the makeup of the islands’ people of yesterday and today.”
“Tetsoron Tano (Treasures of the Islands)” is set to begin taping within the year and will be shown on KMCV7. Under the MOA, Blue Bay Pro Co. will be responsible for stage operations, including entertainment line-up, sounds, and lights. DCCA will provide sufficient seating and security. DCCA will also maintain other street market operations, including vendor management.
“We are very excited at this opportunity to bring the level of entertainment up a notch at the Garapan Street Market,” said DCCA Secretary Juan L. Babauta. “Collaborating with a professional production company is going to mean an even better quality of on-stage performance, and we’re looking forward to more publicity and bigger crowds as a result of this partnership.”
Cabael adds the company has received highly favorable response to their requests for sponsorship from local businesses.
The Garapan Street Market is held every Thursday, from 5pm to 9pm at the Paseo de Marianas in downtown Garapan. It offers a wide selection of foods, imported and local crafts, novelties and free live entertainment. (PR)
