The Garapan Rollers I extended its winning streak with ease Tuesday evening while sister team G-Rollers III fell to the San Antonio Sixers II in the ongoing 2005 Saipan Rotary Club Summer Youth Basketball League.

The G-I crew had their eyes set on keeping their perfect record intact and did so by cruising past the Matansa Sparks, 78-45.

With instructions from coach Joe Diaz running through their minds, the G-I cagers entered the court and quickly swung the game to their favor.

Nine different G-I players managed to put the rock through the hoop as the team dominated and put a smile on coach Diaz’s face by lighting up the scoreboard with a whopping 48 points in the opening half.

Combined with a defensive stand that forced turnovers and limited the Sparks to 16 points, the G-Rollers I rested at the break with a 32-point cushion.

The Sparks put up a better show offensively in the second half, however, they weren’t able to put a dent on the G-Rollers’ humongous lead.

The two teams were evenly matched in the second half, with the G-Rollers scoring just a point more than the opposition to settle for the 33-point victory margin.

Pedro Iguel led the G-Rollers I with a game-high 14 points, while Kevin Aldan contributed 13 points, including 11 straight points in the second half. Guards Joemar Tumaquip and Vince Teregeyo also chipped in 11 points apiece.

Ken Deleon Guerrero paced the Sparks with 10 points.

In the second game, the youngest of the G-Rollers teams—G-Rollers III—put up a good fight, but lost to the San Antonio Sixers II, 58-45.

The Sixers II were able to take the early lead courtesy of turnovers and forced shots by the G-III squad.

The slim lead evaporated before the half ended as cagebelle Nicole Lebria nailed a running baseline shot that evened up the score at 22 apiece just seconds before the buzzer sounded.

The Sixers II were able to regain advantage and managed to close the game on a high note as Dwight Buena sizzled for 10 points in the half to spearhead a 36-23 run.

Buena led the Sixers II with 10 points, while Josh Moses and Champ Untalan paced the G-III boys with 12 points apiece.
