The Babauta administration said it prefers to wait for the Nov. 5 general elections this year to see the “real” survey result among the CNMI voters.

“The survey that matters is the one that happens on Nov. 5. That’s the one to believe,” said press secretary Peter A. Callaghan yesterday.

This came after a survey, reportedly conducted over the weekend by the group of Public School System federal program officer Tim Thornburg, showed that majority or 72 percent of 225 respondents “think that things are going in the wrong direction” in the CNMI.

The survey also said that 80 percent of the respondents said they disagreed with Gov. Juan N. Babauta’s statement that the economy is pretty darn good.

It further said that 57 percent of the respondents said they were financially better off four years ago or before the Babauta administration.

The same survey showed that the respondents’ choice for governor and lieutenant governor is the tandem of independent candidates Heinz S. Hofschneider and David Apatang, with 26 percent.

It placed second the Covenant Party’s team of Benigno R. Fitial and Tim P. Villagomez with 24 percent.

The Babauta-Benavente of the ruling Republican Party was ranked third with 21 percent.

Democratic Party’s Froilan C. Tenorio and Antonio Santos was fourth with 13 percent.

The survey reportedly cited a 5-percent margin of error.
