After a long wait, the Office of the Governor finally granted the Carolinian Affairs Office’ request for the expansion of its property.

A dedication ceremony was held Thursday afternoon with Gov. Juan N. Babauta leading the official turnover of Lot No. 008-D-29 and Lot No. 008-D-30 to CAO.

CAO executive assistant Victorino Igitol said he is very ecstatic about the granting of their request, which would now allow them to expand CAO and the Chamolinian Cultural Village.

Lot No. 008-D-30 is the former Head Start area in Garapan and will now be under CAO’s responsibilities and supervision.

The governor congratulated CAO and commended Igitol’s continued efforts to preserve the Carolinian culture.

“This is a permanent home for the preservation of Carolinian culture and tradition,” Babauta said.

The expansion of the property, he said, would serve as his administration’s cultural legacy. Babauta said the extension would provide an opportunity for CAO to develop the designated lots to facilities that would promote Carolinian culture and tradition.

Igitol said that Lot No. 008-D-29 used to be owned by a non-profit organization. He said the turnover of the two lots mark a historic event for the Carolinian community.

Special assistant for Carolinian Affairs Antonio Mareham hosted the dedication ceremony. He said the turnover coincided with the monthlong celebration of the Cultural Heritage Month.

As part of the culminating activities of the celebration, there will be games held today at the Chamolinian Cultural Village. Igitol said there would be a canoe race, a fishing contest, an underground cooking competition, and many more events. He said the awarding ceremony for the competition would be held tonight at 6pm.
