The Saipan Hoshoji Temple was burglarized in the middle of the afternoon last Monday when still unidentified thieves stole construction materials from the shrine.

Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Catherine Sheu said that around 2:38pm Monday, a representative from the Saipan Hoshoji Temple Association reported the missing construction materials from the shrine located at Banzai Cliff in Marpi.

Sheu said the burglary and theft incident report noted that apart from the construction materials stolen, the unidentified persons also took 500-gallon water containers and two generators that were placed to light the area at night.

The police estimated the value of properties stolen to be around $10,400. DPS said no arrests have been made yet. The DPS Criminal Investigation Bureau is still investigating the case. The bureau has also deployed detectives to the site for monitoring and follow up.
