A Public School System official said yesterday that their choice of color used in repainting bus curbs and the interior of old school buses was not meant to endorse any political party for the upcoming gubernatorial elections.

The color used for the bus curbs and school bus interiors was yellow, which is the color associated with incumbents Gov. Juan N. Babauta and Lt. Gov. Diego T. Benavente of the Republican Party.

Associate commissioner for administrative services David M. Borja said they used that particular color because that was already the color of the school buses and it is also a safety-related color.

“It’s a color of safety,” Borja said, pointing out that the color is mandated by the U.S. National Safety Council.

Borja said PSS also had to repaint the interior of the school buses to remove traces of graffiti.

He further clarified that the paint was ordered a long time ago and that they only needed to determine the schedule of the repainting project.

The repainting project, which also involved the Workforce Investment Agency, was funded through the assistance of National Emergency Grant. It was undertaken last Saturday.
