The CNMI Energy Division, in collaboration with the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. and YCO True Value/Do-It-Best Hardware, will be at the C.U.C. Dandan Branch today, Oct. 14, 2005 from 9am to 3pm to do the promotional “BOGO” Buy One/Get One Free Energy Star® compact fluorescent light bulb.

“Everyone is looking for ways to reduce their utility bill, that’s why we decided to have the BOGO promotion at the CUC Dandan Branch. While customers are paying for their bill they will have the opportunity to see the light bulb comparison display kit and see how much savings they will be making if they invest in a CFL. It is one of the fastest and easiest way in reducing your utility bill,” says Energy director Thelma B. Inos.

In addition, if you purchase any Energy Star ® CFL at the CUC Dandan Branch, you will be entered for the CFL Homemaker Drawing, which is to replace all incandescent light bulbs to CFLs at your home. The drawing will be on Monday, Oct. 17, 2005 at the YCO Do-It-Best in Chalan Piao at 1:30pm.

So far, over 200 CNMI families have replaced their energy-wasting incandescent bulbs with energy-saving compact fluorescents since the implementation of the “BOGO” promotion. Everyone is taking advantage of the sale and seeing the energy savings.

“Some people think the CFL is expensive, but think of it this way: You change one 75 watt incandescent bulb to a 20 watt CFL and you can actually save at least $9 per year and that’s only on one bulb. Imagine the savings if you change all your incandescent bulbs to CFLs,” said Inos.

It’s easy to replace (uses same socket), uses only _ electricity with the same lumen output and you see savings immediately.

“We challenge and encourage the CNMI community to make a pledge to change one light at home to an energy-efficient light bulb. Let us all ‘Make a Change for the Better with Energy Star,’” added Inos.
