The Department of Public Safety is seeking the cooperation of the public about a reckless driving incident that happened along Beach Road in the afternoon of Oct. 3.

DPS spokesman Eric David said the incident occurred around 3:16pm two Mondays ago and that police detective Chris Deleon Guerrero was the one who reported the incident.

David said Guerrero was just behind the suspect’s Toyota Corolla sedan, with plate number ACB 461, when it suddenly swerved overtaking vehicles on the left side of the lane. Guerrero called DPS dispatch through police radio requesting for assistance while the suspect was driving along Beach Road, San Jose by the Microl traffic light.

David said that Guerrero was in continued pursuit of the suspect’s vehicle from Beach Road, Chalan Laulau until the Horiguchi Building east to Middle Road, Garapan then south to Middle Road, Gualo Rai in front of Triple J Shell Tire and Lube where, David said, police were finally able to stop the suspect’s car.

David said a Korean male was arrested for reckless driving, specifically for failure to yield and failure to signal. He said the suspect was not cooperative to police and only gave his last name, which is Park.

“The suspect refused to give his bio-data,” said David adding that the suspect was arrested and detained for 24 hours. He said the driver reportedly was not under the influence of alcohol during the incident. Park is up for a court hearing next week.

David requested those who witnessed the incident to give their statements to the DPS Criminal Investigation Bureau and Traffic Section. Witnesses can call the DPS CIB and Traffic Section for statements regarding the incident at tel. no. 664-9042 and 664-9085.

In other news, David clarified that the Attorney General’s Office is the sole authority to order an autopsy on the man police believe had drowned Saturday at a beach in Chalan Piao.
