Officials of the Island-wide Village Youth Basketball League announced that they would host the 2nd Annual Christmas IVYBL Basketball Tournament on December.

Tournament co-coordinator Joe Mettao disclosed Thursday that the tournament would be held from Dec. 27 to Dec. 29 at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium, and that slots are limited to the first 10 teams that register. If necessary, games will be played on Dec. 30.

Since the tournament is organized by the IVYBL, league rules and regulations will apply, such as all cagers in the 15-player roster must be under the age of 15 years. Also, all players on the roster who are suited up for the game must see action.

According to co-coordinator Jonathan Tenorio, the teams will be divided into pools for regular round play, with the top two teams in each pool advancing to the playoffs. Teams making it to the playoffs are assured cash prizes, with the champion receiving $150, the runner-up getting $125, third place $100, and fourth place $75. Trophies will also be presented to the top teams.

In addition, a trophy and $50 will be awarded for best sportsmanship, while $25 and a trophy will be given to the most valuable player.

A banquet and awards ceremony will be held immediately after the championship game.

Interested teams must pay an entrance fee of $100 by Nov. 30, with the first 10 teams settling their entry fees assured of slots.

“Even if you show interest first than another team, but the other team pays first, then that team that pays will be the first to be accepted,” Mettao said. “No pay, no play.”

Mettao and Tenorio are inviting all interested teams to take part in an important meeting on Oct. 27 at 6pm at the Ada Gym conference room. Another meeting will be held on Nov. 30, which will also serve as the deadline to submit the entrance fee, rosters, and age verification documents of all players.

Last year, Afetnas took the championship crown, while the San Antonio Sixers finished runner-up. The Garapan Rollers placed third while Tinian took fourth place.
