Pepsi, Caruth, Robles are week’s best
Team Pepsi, Rob Caruth, and Danny Robles humbled their competition these past eight days en route to ruling their respective sports.
Pepsi led after every quarter and took the championship of the Masters Basketball League 45-and-over division against Old Aces last Oct. 8. Pepsi posted the masterful 87-67 win over Old Aces at the Northern Marianas College Gymnasium.
Caruth, meanwhile, was the first to cross the finish line in the 9th Annual Rota Fiesta Half Marathon held early Saturday morning in the Northern Marianas’ most southern island. He did the trick in a time of 1:47:43 in what probably was his swan song in the CNMI’s long-distance running circuit.
Robles, for his part, hoisted the winners’ trophy of the October Pepsi King of the Lanes Tenpin Bowling Tournament after knocking down 911 pinfalls Monday at the Saipan Bowling Center. Rita Palacios took the Queen of the Lanes title after rolling a score of 694.
Four evenings earlier, Pogey Points received their championship trophy following their triumph in the 16th season of the PBA-CBC Friday Night League at the Capitol Bowling Center.
The Express Electronics Eagles also spoiled the Typhoon homecoming at the Tinian Municipal Field last Saturday with a 22-13 smack down.
Last Saturday also saw the 2005 Masters Baseball League kick off its season at the Kan Pacific Baseball Field in Marpi. The Typhoon and the Cyclones were the first to get a “W” in the standings after they defeated the Hurricane and the Tornadoes, respectively.
High school Rocball, co-ed volleyball, and basketball—Bud Cup and Rotary leagues—also continued their competition last week.
