Babauta’s uncle, brother-in-law join Covenant’s waving rally
Hundreds of supporters of the Covenant Party joined a waving rally at the roadside of San Jose, forming a long line that stretched from the San Jose intersection to across the Mobil gas station past the Oleai Beach Bar & Grill area.
With many of them wearing the party’s symbolic green shirt and waving green flags, supporters waved and greeted passing motorists, who reciprocated the call for support by honking their horns.
An unidentified motorist chanted, “All the way!” as supporters cheered “Biba!” while holding posters and placards of the party’s candidates.
The party’s gubernatorial tandem—House Speaker Benigno Fitial and Vice Speaker Timothy Villagomez—led the candidates in waving at motorists.
Gov. Juan N. Babauta’s uncle, Joaquin Babauta, joined the rally. Babauta’s former brother-in-law, Alex Chong, wore a green shirt, chanting cheers for the Covenant Party.
“I think we have a better future under Covenant’s banner. The party has a road map,” Chong said.
Also present at the rally were former Public Health Secretary Joseph Kevin Villagomez and Commonwealth Utilities Corp. board member Joe Torres.
“We need better times. We need to get our economy back to where we were,” Torres said.
Meanwhile, Covenant advertising committee chair Charles Reyes Jr. belied reports emanating from the Republican Party that Vincent Calvo, the party’s former chairman for Rota, has defected to the GOP camp.
Reyes said Calvo spoke before Covenant’s supporters at a political rally in Koblerville Thursday night, expressing his full support for the party’s candidates led by Fitial and Villagomez.
