The Republican Party gave away two live cows and a brand new car during its fundraising event Friday night at Fishing Base in Garapan.

The event followed the party’s waving across Kristo Rai Church on Beach Road, Garapan earlier that evening.

The event, which lasted from 4:30pm to about 6:15pm, gathered some 400 supporters from both the government and the private sectors.

“More people came at 5:30pm because that’s the time when they’ve gone home from work. It’s a great show of support from friends and supporters. Both sides of the road were full-packed,” said GOP chair John S. Reyes.

When asked about the raffle winners, Reyes said the ticket purchased by Tan Holdings executive Jack Torres won one live cow. The other live cow went to a buyer from the Korean community.

The grand prize, a brand new car, went to a ticket holder from the Department of Finance.

The Committee to Elect Babauta-Benavente, chaired by Rufin Inos, organized the raffle drawing, which was originally set on Sept. 7. To join the raffle, people had to buy tickets priced at $10 each. It was not known how much was raised through the fundraising.

The party chairman described the outcome of both events Friday night as “great and very encouraging.’

“I think the outcome shows the strength of the Republican Party last night,” he said yesterday.

Reyes expressed confidence that if elections were held today, the Republican Party “will be victorious.”

The general elections will be held on Nov. 5.

The party was set to hold a political rally on Tinian last night. Tonight, the party is scheduled to hold another rally on Rota.

About two weeks ago, the party said that both events on Rota and Tinian were participated by supporters from other parties.

“We’re working hard and we’re working clean,” said Reyes.
