Balls and strikes will be called after all for the 2005 Saipan Major League Fall League after organizers announced that the season would unfold this Sunday at the Kan Pacific Baseball Field in Marpi.

League coordinator Tony Rogolifoi said he received phone calls from team representatives confirming their participation and their willingness to abide by all requirements set forth by the league. As a result, Rogolifoi has given the green light for the teams to take the field and vie for the coveted championship.

Rogolifoi said only four teams will see action this year, with two-time defending champion Hustlers, Pirates, D-9ers, and Tanapag expected to slug it out for supremacy.

The Hustlers will begin their title defense and campaign for a third straight crown against the D-9ers, as the two have the honors of opening the season at 10am, while the Pirates and Tanapag face off immediately after.

Rogolifoi had earlier warned that the season could possibly be cancelled until next year after mandatory meetings set by the league featured low turnouts, resulting in Rogolifoi questioning if teams were serious about playing this season.

A deadline was set for last Friday, and fortunately for baseball fans, organizers received the response they needed.

The league originally scheduled to start along with the Masters Baseball League last Oct. 1, however, only the veterans were able to show their stuff as organizers had to postpone the Fall League start.

Last season, the Hustlers came back from a 2-4 start in the regular season to take the pennant, and defeated the North Stars in four games in the championship series.
