What great news that Phillip Mendiola-Long won the Governor’s Humanities Council Award for Preservation of CNMI History! He is very deserving of this award. I have never been to a more organized and wonderful event. Phil is a great leader. He brought together men who were once enemies and they became friends. These men found peace and understanding after 60 years.

Phil had the whole island of Tinian involved with the event and what wonderful people they are. We felt so welcome and part of them. We made friends that we will never forget. I will never forget Tinian. Phil and his family will always be in my heart and everyone else we met.

My father and I both went to Tinian and I am so glad he had the opportunity to go back to Tinian after 60 years. He said that going to Tinian was the trip of a lifetime for him. Dad passed away a short time after we got home. He was a survivor of the USS Indianapolis.

Congratulations Phil!!! You deserve this award. You are a great organizer and a great person.
