Malat broke into the win column after beating Caropinos, 56-37, yesterday at the Marianas High School Gymnasium as action in the 2005 World Organized Rocball High School League continued.

The win brings Malat to the .500 mark with a 1-1 win-loss card, while the loss was the second in as many games for the Caropinos.

As reported earlier, Malat opened the match with a fury and easily took the first set, 17-1. Darrel Moteisou highlighted their charge, serving up five straight aces to open the set and give his team 10 quick points.

Malat continued to dominate the match, pulling all the right strings in the second set and increased their lead to a commanding 25 points, 32-7, with a 15-6 victory.

The Caropinos, however, still had hope and saw some the light at the end of their tunnel by coming back strong in the third set. The team hustled to prevent Malat from storming too far ahead and managed to break Malat’s momentum with a 16-8 win, cutting the deficit to 17 points, 23-40.

The Caropinos were still in a deep hole and had to win the fourth set to force o-kon and prevent Malat from juicing out.

The team made a good run at forcing extra sets, and got a huge lift courtesy of a goal connection from Matthew Iguel.

Their effort, however, was not enough though as the team came up short and faltered, 14-16, to end the match.

Moteisou was the game’s heavy hitter, finding plenty of success from behind the service line with seven aces and a xunk, and added a kee for 18 points. Teammate Julian Fitial also had a solid outing with 11 points after smashing three aces, two xunks, and a jam.

High school Rocball resumes on Monday with Just For Fun taking on Ochobu.
