Pvt. Zoel Daniel Toves Quitugua from the CNMI was among a thousand soldiers who recently finished an intensive nine weeks of combat training and took their oath to “support and defend the Constitution” of the United States on Oct. 28, 2005 at the graduation ceremony at Fort Jackson, South Carolina.

The special ceremony marked the difficult transition from civilian life to being an American soldier. With the ceremony, Quitugua joins the longstanding tradition of sons and daughters of the CNMI responding to the call of duty to serve and defend the nation.

Quitugua, the son of Antonio and Agnes Cabrera of As Lito, Saipan, has been assigned to Charlie Company, 2nd Battalion, 28th Infantry Regiment.

As he enters the ranks of the U.S. Army, he is highly motivated, disciplined, physically fit, mentally tough, and well trained in fundamental combat skills.

The graduation ceremony was attended by Ed Pangelinan, on behalf of Resident Representative Pete A. Tenorio.

“On behalf of the citizens of the Commonwealth, I congratulate you on your accomplishment and responding to the call of duty in defending freedom, liberty, and democracy of our nation. It is a proud moment and an overwhelming experience to see one of our citizens become an American soldier. Our government has an obligation to show support and honor to every soldier, sailor, airman, marine, and Coast Guard member from the CNMI making the transition to serve our nation. I wish Zoel the best and Godspeed in his service to our country,” Tenorio said.

Quitugua’s next duty assignment is at Fort Eustace, Virginia. (PR)
