Northern Marianas Athletics recognized four athletes for their achievements this past month during a meeting yesterday.

Taking top honors for October were runners Champ Untalan and Jackie Wonenberg as well as throwers Dolores Rangamar and Sidro Tebuteb. The four put up impressive performances in the recent qualifying trials for the upcoming 2005 Micronesian Athletics Championships.

The four athletes are also NMA’s bets for the Northern Marianas Amateur Sports Association’s October Athletes of the Month awards. NMASA honors athletes on four categories each month—male athlete, female athlete, student male athlete, and student female athlete.

Last Saturday, Wonenberg broke her personal best in the 400m with a time of 1:05.64 and followed it up by dominating the 100m sprint as she crossed the finish line in 14.25 seconds.

Untalan is NMA’s candidate for the youth male award, while Wonenberg is the organization’s candidate for the youth female award.
