I. Saturday Reading Program Dates
Our Rule of Thumb for the Saturday Reading Program is: “No school Friday? No school Saturday.” We will NOT have Saturday Reading the following dates in 2005: Nov. 5th, 12th, and 26th. Dec. 24th and 31st.
II. Home-School Communication
Parents, each Hopwood student has a Student Handbook THAT contains all the school rules, the school calendar, and plenty of space to write homework assignments and messages to parents. Parents may also use the Handbook to write messages to teachers. Each month the VP puts out a press release announcing all the upcoming events at Hopwood. Parents can either cut the announcement out of the newspaper and hand it up as a reminder, or write the dates in the Student Handbook. Each ‘Day A,’ the bulletin is read to the students. All upcoming events are announced. That is the time for students to write in the Handbooks. On page 64 of the Student Handbook is the schedule for all PTSA meetings for the entire 2005-06 school year. Announcements are also made at the PTSA meetings. Page 65 of the Handbook has all the phone number listing for Hopwood staff. Parents can find information regarding school activities either in the newspaper, in the Student Handbook, or at the PTSA meetings. Please ask your Hopwood students to show you his/her Handbook and discuss ways together to increase home-school communication.
III. Correction
Pages 27-28 of the Student handbook detail the Academic Achievement and Awards for Hopwood Junior High School. Please note that the criteria for all awards states that students must be on grade level in reading, writing, and math, as measured by the STAR Assessment system, through the 3rd Quarter of the 8th grade year. “On grade level,” is defined as a score of 8.8 (8th year, 8th month).
Hopwood closed to non-PSS activities
Beginning Nov. 1, 2005, the campus of Hopwood Junior High School will be closed to all non-Public School System activities. Groups wishing to use the facilities on a one-time basis should contact Hopwood for specifics, according to principal Jim Brewer.
