The Northern Mariana Islands Volleyball Association is one local sporting organization that isn’t wasting any time in preparing for the 2006 Micronesian Games that will be held on Saipan next summer as the indoor and outdoor teams will be evaluating players this weekend at different venues.

According to NMIVA vice president Taula Peter, the association will be holding tryouts for both the men’s and women’s indoor squads at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium while the beach volleyball players will get their shout at landing a spot at the Hyatt Regency Saipan beach.

The hard court leapers get their taste of the tests on Saturday, Nov. 19, as the women will run drills and show off their skills from 1pm to 5pm while the men will do the same from 9am to 12pm on Sunday, Nov. 20.

Peter said that there were a number of women who showed up for the tryouts the first time around and that he was a little disappointed by the lack of men for the opening week. He reminded all interested players that they are welcome to tryout for the team.

The beach players get their second shot at representing the CNMI this weekend as well during the two-day qualifying tournament with the men playing on Saturday and the women hitting the Hyatt sand on Sunday. The fee for the two-on-two action is $5 for NMIVA members and $10 for all others.

Island time is not in effect as players must register by 9:30am as games will start at 10am sharp.
