The Basketball Association of the Northern Mariana Islands board will meet today to determine the playoffs format of the ongoing 2005 Budweiser Cup BANMI Men’s Island-wide Basketball League.

BANMI vice president Elias Rangamar said yesterday that the board will convene at 5pm at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium to finalize the scheduling of the playoffs.

The league comprises of eight teams, and one big issue to be discussed is how slots will be available in the playoffs, as well as whether the format will be single elimination or double elimination.

Already bagging the pennant crown is two-time defending champion Bud Light-Toyota Tundra (12-2), while the Bud Ice- Hoopaholics/SaipanCell (10-3) and MARPAC-Nissan Titans (8-4) hold the No. 2 and 3 spots. As of Wednesday, O’Douls-Ol’Aces (6-7) held the fourth spot, while Anheuser-8 3’s Construction (5-7) is in fifth. Michelob-Torque (4-6) is in sixth, while Bacardi-Golden Oldies (5-8) and Budweiser-Wells Fargo (0-13) follow.

Also to be discussed is the hosting of the Micronesian Basketball Tournament, which will be held on Saipan on January.
