Saipan Mayor Juan B. Tudela has proclaimed tomorrow as “Feed Saipan Thursday,” as the municipality joins the rest of the nation in remembering the poor, hungry and homeless this Thanksgiving Day.

Tudela said the fourth annual proclamation in his municipality should signify the start of the seasons of giving.

“We should all be thankful for all the graces we received from the Lord and it is that time of year that we share those gifts with our less fortunate brothers and sisters,” He said.

The proclamation says that residents of Saipan now and always will remember the millions of Americans, including 13 million children, who live in households without an adequate supply of food, “and who need our comfort and sustenance this Thanksgiving Day.”

Tudela is calling on all community members to sacrifice, or fast for two meals on Thursday and donate cash that they would otherwise spend for food that day to Karidat, a non-profit social service organization on Saipan.

“My office again welcomes any donation, whether it be food or clothing, which my office will turn over to Karidat Social Services in the next couple of days,” Tudela said.

Karidat director Angie Guerrero attended the proclamation. She said her office is very grateful to Tudela for taking the lead in the project in the last four years.

“We do help a lot of workers and locals. This project would alleviate some of the problems related to hunger,” Guerrero said.
Community organizations United Filipino Organization and CNMI Power, Inc. also attended the proclamation. UFO overall chair Ed Reyes said his group will extend its all-out support to the municipality’s projects. CNMI Power president Corey Borja said her group would help by providing clothes and food for the needy.
