Governor-elect Benigno Fitial and lieutenant governor-elect Timothy Villagomez will host an appreciation party for the CNMI public in Susupe on Sunday.

The gathering will coincide with Fitial’s birthday, according to Covenant Party advertising committee chairman Charles Reyes Jr.

Reyes said the event would be held from 10am to 4pm at the Susupe basketball court, the same venue where Fitial and Villagomez led the Covenant Party’s election candidates and supporters in holding its miting de avance last Oct. 30.

The appreciation party comes over a week after Fitial and Villagomez claimed victory in the recent gubernatorial polls. The Commonwealth Election Commission completed the counting of absentee votes on Saturday last week.

Without the absentee votes, Fitial and Villagomez led the gubernatorial race with 3,497 votes, 126 votes ahead than the 3,371 votes for the independent tandem of Heinz Hofschneider and David Apatang, and 269 votes higher than incumbent Gov. Juan N. Babauta and Lt. Gov. Diego T. Benavente’s 3,228 votes.

Fitial-Villagomez maintained the top spot after the absentee votes were counted. The winning team garnered a total of 3,809 votes, 99 votes ahead than Hofschneider-Apatang’s 3,710 votes, and 199 votes higher than Babauta-Benavente’s 3,610 votes.

Fitial said after the absentee votes’ counting that he would form a transition committee that would come up with a transition plan for his takeover of the CNMI government’s administration in January.

The first thing that he would do as CNMI governor, according to Fitial, is to meet with business leaders “to ask them to work together with my administration so we can help them continue to do business in the CNMI.” He added that he would meet with potential investors from Japan, Hong Kong, and Korea to invite them to do business in the CNMI.
