Father, son injured as car struck their bicycle
A man and his four-year-old son were injured when a bicycle they were riding on was struck by a car driven by an intoxicated man in San Antonio, police said yesterday.
Theofin Secharraimul, 44, of Koblerville, received scrape marks on his left knee, left hand and right shoulder. He complained of pain on the left wrist.
Secharraimul’s son suffered a swollen forehead and laceration to the back of the head, police said.
The driver of a car identified as Victor Padilla Mallari, 25, of Chalan Kanoa, was arrested for driving while under the influence of alcohol, reckless driving, speeding, and failure to yield to incoming vehicle.
Secharraimul told police that on Nov. 24 at 5:09pm he was riding his bicycle with his son as his passenger at the intersection of Beach Road and Batto PI Street.
Secharraimul said he did not see any vehicle so he drove to the highway, but he got struck by a car. His son was thrown to the ground.
The driver of the car did not stop.
A witness said he shouted at the driver who refused to stop then threw a lime at the vehicle.
Some men who were in the area threw rocks at the car, the witness said.
The driver stopped later in the area. Police responded and conducted their investigation.
Mallari told police that he saw the bicycle coming from the secondary road so he slowed down. He said the bicycle suddenly entered the highway so he applied the brakes.
The car slid and struck the bicycle. He said the road was wet and slippery at that time.
Acting Department of Public Safety spokesman Eric David said Mallari was found to have .149 blood alcohol concentration, which is beyond the .08 legal limit.
