With all tickets sold and spectators filling up the Trench Tech-Purebred Saipan Gym to its capacity, Trench Warz Fight Night was undoubtedly a successful fundraiser.

Event coordinator Cuki Alvarez said yesterday that Trench Tech raised about $3,000 from the 16-card fighting event held last Saturday.

“We did pretty good,” Alvarez said. “We spent about $1,000 to build the cage…it was man hours and parts and labor and all that kind of stuff, so after the $1,000 was paid out, we made about $3,000 so it was perfect and awesome for our gym.”

The event featured 16 fights in various disciplines such as boxing, kickboxing, jiu jitsu, grappling, submissions, freestyle fighting, and no holds barred full contact fighting.

All proceeds will go to the construction of Trench Tech’s new establishment and gym. The new facility is an upgrade compared to the gym currently being used and new equipment necessary during training will be purchased as well.

With the fundraiser’s success, Alvarez confirmed that more fights will be held in the near future, and eyes another event sometime in mid- or late February.

“Oh yeah we’ll have more,” he said. “We’ve done it and we can do it again. We’ll see what happens.”

Meanwhile, Alvarez said he has received an invitation from boxing promoter Al Taitano to showcase no-hold barred fights as a “side” competition during a boxing event to be held possibly on New Year’s Eve on Tinian.

Alvarez also explained that holding more events will not only promote the sport, but will provide fighters with the needed exposure to competition before heading into big fights such as Fury Fighting Islands, which was held on Saipan last April.

Alvarez earlier said that much of the successful comes courtesy of the supporting spectators and expressed his appreciation for all the contributions, assistance, and support.

Trench Warz Fight Night drew over 250 spectators. The main event featured 16-year-old Frank Camacho beating Bernie Neth, while Jason Tarkong Tarkong won over Kelvin Fitial via tap out.
