Governor-elect Benigno R. Fitial and Lt. Governor-elect Timothy P. Villagomez have received congratulations from the Philippine government and Continental Micronesia.

In separate letters to Fitial, Philippine consul general for the CNMI Wilfredo Deleon Maximo and Continental Micronesia president and CEO Mark A. Erwin extended their best wishes to the incoming governor on his election to the top post in the Commonwealth.

They also expressed their willingness to work with the new administration.

“We offer to you the hand of friendship and cooperation so that the strong bonds that bind the Filipino community with the people of the CNMI will continue to be strengthened based on mutual respect and goodwill,” Maximo said.

For his part, Erwin said: “As you begin your term as Governor in 2006, I would like to take this opportunity to reiterate how much we at Continental Micronesia value our relationship with the people of the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas. I look forward to working with you and building a mutually beneficial relationship with you and your cabinet.”

On behalf of Speaker Fitial, House leadership spokesperson Charles P. Reyes Jr. said the incoming administration welcomes the congratulations from both the Philippine Consulate General and Continental Micronesia.

“The [governor-elect] is certainly looking forward to maintaining good relations with the Philippine government, particularly with regard to tourism, security and labor issues,” Reyes said.

He added that Fitial recognizes the importance of working with the airlines and providing incentives to encourage them to increase airlift capacity to the islands.

“He will meet with businesspeople and see how he can accommodate them,” Reyes said.
