Lou Leon Guerrero named president, CEO, and board chair of BoG

Hagatna, Guam—The Board of Directors of the Bank of Guam has unanimously selected Lourdes A. Leon Guerrero as the bank’s president, chief executive officer and chairman of the board, effective March 31, 2006. Known as “Lou,” Leon Guerrero is acting chairman of the board and is the sister of the late Tony Leon Guerrero, who held the same titles. Tony Leon Guerrero passed away last Oct. 19.

William D. Leon Guerrero, executive vice president and chief operating officer was appointed vice chairman of the board in addition to his current responsibilities.

Lourdes Leon Guerrero served as a board member from 1991 to 1998. Reappointed in 2002, she has been vice chairman of the board of the Bank of Guam since September 2002.

In addition to her recent duties as acting chairman of the board, she has been acting chairman of the bank’s Executive and Loan Committees. A volunteer for numerous associations, Lou Leon Guerrero has served on the boards of St. John’s School and Catholic Social Services.

The new president has many diverse leadership experiences, ranging from public service to health care management. As such, she brings to the bank a wealth of skills and abilities. With its unanimous decision, the board has voiced its strong support and confidence on her ability to lead the bank successfully.

The first woman chief executive officer of the major financial services company in the region, Lou Leon Guerrero takes over the bank at a time when assets are at the $800-million range at a company employing nearly 400 people throughout the western Pacific.

“I am extremely proud to be heading the Bank of Guam with a strong and experienced team of senior managers and staff. It is with this confidence that we will move in a clear and visible direction continuing in the legacy of both my father, Jesus S. Leon Guerrero, and my, brother Tony,” Lou Leon Guerrero said.

Born and educated on Guam, the bank’s new president is an alumna of the Academy of Our Lady of Guam, and received her BS degree in Nursing from California State University in Los Angeles and a Master’s Degree in Public Health from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA). Lou Leon Guerrero is married to attorney Jeff Cook, and they have two children, Joaquin and Mariana. She is the daughter of the Bank of Guam’s founder, the late Jesus S. Leon Guerrero and Eugenia A. Leon Guerrero. (PR)
