Sail away, sailor, sail away home

When neither will to linger nor heart for flight,
and when your eyes betray the time of tears;
the sail maker of the universe heaves you a ho,
as you cling so steadfastly to the remnants of life.

Can you see within the metawaal wool clouds,
the world of awe and wonder beyond horizons,
or are you too body-bound to chance the lights,
to look beneath the shadows of the night?

Our hearts broke when your consciousness stumbled on the lonely ocean pathway beneath the sky.
Sails do come so frail against the wind, but why do storms blow the earth dust of your mind to rust?

You were hardly a sailor of despair, dear friend;
and now that the dark brown earth cease to hold,
go deep inside yourself to your ancestral path,
to the long rope of tradition that marks your soul.

Now that you have finished life upon the earth,
come trust the daring venture of departing.
Infinite silence calls you to begin the ending,
t’is the labor of your birth into a new beginning.

Eternity happens when death turns into light.
So sail away, defy the tyranny of finite life;
rise above flesh’s fury amidst the wind’s swirl.
The one who binds the storm receives you.

Return to the promise when you were conceived. Take heart in the gracious blessing of our sorrow.
Go now in peace, the time of tears is ended,
And pray watch over all the weary souls who follow.
