PIC manager is SHRM Employer of the Year
A local organization of human resource managers has chosen Pacific Islands Club general manger Kieran Daly as its 2005 Employer of the Year.
Daly was nominated for the award by the PIC Human Resources Department headed by Angela Yamashita-Santos, who is an active member of the Society of Human Resource Management.
In its nomination letter, the resort hotel’s HR department said Daly had acknowledged the importance of the HR function since his appointment to PIC Saipan’s top management spot.
Daly has promoted Yamashita-Santos to sit on the hotel’s executive committee, giving her decision-making authority at the highest level within the hotel on issues that affect employees. He also formed a complete HR team, allowing each member to fully concentrate on his or her respective tasks.
PIC’s human resource management group also cited Daly’s focus on employee relations and development. He has initiated training programs and employee activities, and ensured the company’s involvement in community events.
In addition, Daly has showed great encouragement in his HR staff’s SHRM membership. The HR group noted that Daly recently made a generous donation for SHRM’s annual conference and allowed for the one-day closure of HR so that all the staff members could attend the event. He also funded the registration and accommodation costs so PIC’s human resources administrator, Andrea Cepeda, could attend the SHRM Annual Conference in San Diego, California.
According to SHRM, Daly has been on island for over three years and has worked in the hospitality industry for over 25 years with the majority of his experience gained throughout the Asia Pacific region, including Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Philippines, and Malaysia.
He is an active member of the Hotel Association of the Northern Mariana Islands and has recently become a member of the Inter-Pacific Resorts Executive Committee.
Daly is also one of the top athletes on Saipan.
