4 charged for assaulting 3 men

The Attorney General’s Office has charged four men, including a son of a congresswoman, for beating three persons that left one victim suffering a brain hemorrhage.

Swain Peter Nugam, 18; Bryson M. Sablan, 19; Henry Manglona Sablan, 22; and Joshua Howard M. Sablan, 18; were charged with two counts of aggravated assault and battery, one count of assault with a dangerous weapon, and one count of conspiracy to commit aggravated assault and battery.

Joshua Sablan is the son of Rep. Janet Maratita, the Saipan Tribune learned.

Chief Prosecutor Jeffrey Moots stated in the information that on Nov. 19 the four defendants struck Thomas Chipwelong, “resulting in a closed skull fracture and a fractured nose.

Moots said Chipwelong also suffered brain hemorrhage requiring hospitalization in the Commonwealth Health Center’s intensive care unit.

Moots said the defendants struck Lorenzo Laropi Mettao, resulting in a concussion and other injuries requiring hospitalization.

The chief prosecutor alleged that the defendants also caused bodily injury to Daniel B. Salas by assaulting the latter with a baseball bat.
